Good news...

Cael's surgery got moved up to 9:30 Monday morning instead of 3:45 pm!! Thank goodness! I really was stressing about how we were going to keep this growing boy from eating all day!!! We will need to be there by 8am, which isn't much different than any other day we take him to daycare or have a regular appointment with the pediatrician. Everything should be over by 10am (they say it is only a 5 minute procedure)! We will have the rest of the day to relax at home!

Have a great day!

Sunday adventure

We decided it would be fun to take Cael to the Minnesota Children's Museum today. He had a blast, and I think his favorite part was playing in the water!
Cael was listening to Jonathan's physics principles...
He loved to push around the shopping cart and put everything in it! The problem was is that Cael was too short to take everything back out of it!
He was amazed by all the kids and everything they were doing!
There is a dinosaur exhibit right now...they were awesome!! I thought Cael would be frighted by them, but I was wrong...he pointed and was talking about them in his own garbled language!

We had a great time, and Cael seemed to be a great age for it! We told Cael we would come back again sometime soon! Cael fell asleep on the way home.

What do Auntie Molly and Cael have in common?

You may have guessed it...ear tubes need to be placed! We went to the ENT who recommended we place tubes so Cael's poor ears can drain the fluid to decrease the risk for more ear infections. We scheduled his surgery on March 1 at 3:45 pm. The hardest thing about this...Cael isn't able to eat for 8 hours before the procedure!! They didn't have a morning appointment available until mid-April, so I guess we will have to see how it goes.

Cael has been a little fussy lately, and I thought it was those darn ears. Well, I felt his mouth a couple days ago, and realized that he has 4 more teeth in there that I didn't know came through!! Cael is up to 12 teeth...yikes! That would make me crabby too...ok, he deserves to be a little fussy every now and then!!

Lutsen in the Winter

In case you are wondering, when I took Cael to the doctor last Friday he ended up having yet another double ear infection, with croup to top it off! Poor guy! So, he was on 2 different medications. Jonathan and I contemplated whether or not we should go up north as we had been planning, but we knew my parents would love to spend the time with Cael, and they can give him medicine just as easily as we could...so, we went...and Cael did really well (according to my parents).

Jonathan and I left early Saturday morning for Lutsen, MN and we were x-country skiing by 12:30! This was my kind of x-country skiing...we took a lift to the top of the mountain, and we gradually came down the "mountain" on a groomed path...I told you..my kind of x-country skiing!

Our "old school" skies worked really well. Someone forgot to tell Jonathan that dress shoes don't work very well with skiing...

On Sunday we went Jonathan was a trooper and went downhill skiing with me. This will only be his 3rd time downhill skiing and the last time we went he broke his thumb! The weather wasn't as nice as it was on Saturday, but I guess that is what you can expect! It is winter in Northern Minnesota! We made it throughout the day without injuries.

We had a great trip, and are looking forward to the summer when we can head up there again, this time for hiking and biking!!

Cael Update

This has kind of been a long, busy week, so I thought I would update everyone. Jonathan stayed home with Cael on Monday since Cael had some sort of a stomach bug with a fever. Thankfully that lasted 1 day. On Tuesday we took Cael to the ENT to figure out if we should do tubes or not. The ENT didn't seem too concerned right now and said "see you in a month". So this makes me feel a little bit better since he doesn't seem too concerned. We had his hearing checked while we were there, and it seems to be a affected, but Cael does have fluid in his ears, so of course it is going to be muffled. We will go back to the ENT in March and see what he says.

Today I got a page from daycare saying Cael's cough is getting worse, and thinks we should take him to the doctor...so we have an appointment this afternoon. We will keep you updated. Hopefully it isn't anything to worry about, but we would rather get it checked out before the weekend comes, especially since my parents are coming up to spend the weekend with Cael while Jonathan and I go skiing in northern Minnesota at Lutsen.

Have a Happy Valentine's Day!!

Haiti

Last week I went to a fundraiser for a group of my co-workers that go to Haiti every year (Healing Hands for Haiti) to provide Haitians with prosthetic limbs, rehabilitation for strokes and other injuries, wound care, and education. The rehabilitation center crumbled in the earthquake, so they had a fundraiser and they raised $25,000 in one night! It was incredible! Here is part of my contribution: a Haitian Jungle canvas painting which goes perfectly in Cael's room!!

This and That

Here are some pictures of Cael enjoying his swimming lessons. Last weekend, Jonathan went in the water with him so I could take some pictures. This week it was my turn in the water with Cael!! We are done with the swimming lessons for now, but hope to get him in the next session lessons later in spring.

Last week (Jan 23-24) we made the journey down to La Crosse on Saturday for a "quick getaway". Jordan and Erin were excellent hosts (as always), and we had a lot of fun activities we did with the boys!

Playing with Flynn's kitchen (they played so well together)...to explain...Cael's pants were in the laundry since they were very dirty after lunch!

We may be in the market for a Cozy Coup as Cael played with it for hours...
They both love their milk!!

Going to the Children's museum and the YMCA!

Saturday we went and got Cael's 12 month pictures taken (ok, almost a month late) but they were still taken within the 12th month!

Cael is doing well otherwise. Still on antibiotics for those darn ears. We have an appointment with the pediatrician on Thursday with an appointment scheduled with the ENT next Tuesday (just in case we need it). We will keep you updated.

Have a great week!
