Grand Marais

Jonathan and I took a long weekend to Grand Marais to celebrate my entering the 3rd decade. We explored Temperance State Park, Grand Marais, Thunder Bay Ontario Canada, and Pincushion Mountain. The weather was windy and cool (50s), and rainy. It did clear off one day for us to do a small hike!

We were waiting to be seated at the Angry Trout restaurant and I began to chat with the lady sitting next to me. Well, she mentioned that right next door to the restaurant was the "Summer Solstice Pageant", which should be getting started about the time we are done eating, and she insisted on us going to it. Well, we took her advice and did... it was a life-size puppet show featuring a current political issue in Cook County, MN...it was entertaining! Also, while we were observing, we learned a lot about the people of Grand Marais!

We had Father's Day brunch at Naniboujou Lodge

We borrowed a tandem bike from the hotel we were staying at and explored the hills of Grand Marais in a way we had never before!

Meanwhile...the kids stayed home with Gramma and Grampa Rixen. I'm not sure who was more exhausted! They were very busy, with lots of stories for Cael to share!! They went to Mall of America (twice I believe), Como Zoo, rode the Light Rail train, went to feed the ducks, went to the park, went for several walks, played in the yard. Rumor has it that Cael slept will 9 am or after almost each day! Supposedly the kids were good, and I know they had a good time! Cael asked this morning if Gramma and Grampa were still here!

Thanks, Gramma and Grampa Rixen! We hope you had a good time with the kids...we know they had a great time with you!
