Camping

Camping was...well...an adventure. We were planning all along to go on Friday night, but with possibility of severe storms, we decided to wait until Saturday to go. Well, the storms came through earlier than expected, so we went Friday night afterall! We got there after the sun had gone down...there is nothing like setting up a new tent, in the dark, with the use of the Corolla's headlights. Thankfully Cael fell asleep on the way there, and he stayed asleep when we got there to give us time to set up the tent! This also means that he was up until Midnight, but oh well. Cael was amazed that we were sleeping in a "unnel" all weekend long. He would ask to go into the tent to play/read...he really liked sitting on our air mattress. Ok, he didn't do much sitting on it, but he would jump and try to do sommersaults on it. He slept pretty well at night, which we can't complain about. He would fall asleep on our air mattress, but we were able to put him into the pack n play (thankfully!) With my belly, there certainly is not much room for the 4 of us on the air mattress!

On Saturday we went canoeing. Cael did surprisingly well wearing the life jacket. He did get restless in the boat, which is to be expected, but we can't complain too much. Jonathan and Peter had to paddle up-river, which they said was difficult. Amanda was holding onto 2 dogs, and I was holding onto Cael. After about 45 minutes, we stopped for a short little break to get out and let Cael and the dogs run. During this little stop, I got a big cut on my leg from the boat and I found out I am NOT allergic to bee stings! At the least the bee went for me instead of Cael!! We got back into the canoe and took the 5 minute trip back down river to return the canoes.

Saturday night it rained hard for about 30 minutes, which was long enough to call it a night (and late enough). Cael slept from 10 pm -7 am...I was surprised when I woke up in the morning and he was still asleep! He woke up on Sunday and said "Momma...unnel!" Again, he realized we were sleeping in a tunnel!! After breakfast, we went for a hike through the state park and did some Geocaching...basically it is like a treasure hunt! You can imagine Jonathan was loving it!! We had some excellent lunch over the fire, and packed up to return home.

Overall, we had a very successful camping trip! Good friends and good food! Cael definitely had is "I'm only 19 months" moments (not knowing what he wants, and in result a mini-tantrum evolved), but overall he was really good, and I think we will be able to go again next year! The most frightening thing throughout the weekend was to make sure that Cael stayed away from the fire! He would get into a "lunge-like" position and almost threaten the fire while he would say "ho-t" with an emphasis on the "t"...funny little guy!

We will have to start planning for next year...could be interesting with 2 little kiddos!

We are looking forward to a weekend staying home this weekend...not much planned, but a lot to do around the house! Have a great week!!
